Thrift Store Hunting is Always Worth It
You know those days when the stars align and the thrift store gods smile upon you? I had one of those recently, and I’m still buzzing about it. There’s something so rewarding about giving beautiful things a second life and bringing pieces with character into our home. It just adds a depth that brand-new items can’t touch.
Here are the three unexpected gems that made my week:
My first stop was Goodwill, where I snagged two great pieces. First, this adorable cardigan! I plan to style it buttoned up over a simple white tee, paired with high-waisted wide-leg denim. It’s my instant mom-uniform upgrade—polished enough for school pickup but comfortable for chasing littles.
Also at Goodwill, I found a set of four floral green salad plates. They are an absolutely perfect addition to my dinner party hosting wear. I love having mismatched, coordinated table settings for holidays or dinner parties. They bring a beautiful, earthy pop of color and texture to the table and look intentionally curated, not just thrown together.
Next, I went to a vintage antique store and found the most adorable sterling silver bear hooks for only $5. The detail on these little bears is incredible.
I’ve styled them in Baby Girl’s nursery (link) and hung her bath towels on them. They add that perfect, sweet touch of whimsy and elevate a simple item like a towel into a charming decor moment.
I love the way it feels to have vintage, one-of-a-kind pieces in a space like a nursery. I talk to my kids about the importance of shopping infrequently, intentionally, and preferably secondhand. We sort their toys and clothes and make donation runs together, so they are familiar with the life cycle of material items. As I tell my oldest, “When one family is ‘done’ with something it’s another family’s turn to enjoy it.” And I am really enjoying these finds!
